Annoying and Frustrating - not a good cause and effect toy Jan 15, 2006
By geeper I bought this toy a few days ago for my one year old son and just finished repackaging it to return it to the store. We gave it a good try for a few days (I'd rather keep a toy that atleast has some potential than return it), but it was just too frustrating.
It seems they were trying to do too much with this toy. Is it a pull toy, cause/effect toy, or a shape sorter? Well it doesn't do any of those things well. It doesn't roll well, the buttons are hard to push (probably in part because it is on wheels, but also even if you push the buttons all the way, it may or may not activate it), and the shapes come out when the wheels roll or the top button is pushed - accompanied by an annoying "WHOOPS!". Part of the programming, but the "WHOOPS" & "shape-sorter" song is too frequent, seemingly random (you can't cut off the song with the push of a button) and very annoying. I thought maybe my son just needs to be a little older (he loves cause & effect devices & toys (remote controls, push button phones, dvd player, etc), but the "effect" part of this toy is way too inconsistent. I think the most enjoyment he got from this toy was picking it up and tossing it.
I gave this toy two stars for the cute design & good quality - it's very solid & well made, but it is too annoying & I think you're better off buying some other toy(s) instead for your little one.

disappointed Jan 13, 2009
By USMCwife4life My son was given the Vtech Crazy Legs Bug as a Christmas gift and we have been disappointed (and annoyed) from the first moment it arrived. First of all, the toy turned on in shipping - the "on - off" level is really loose - so the box was singing when we got it home. It really hasn't stopped since. You only have to THINK about this toy and it starts singing the most annoying song (and the only song?) about sorting shapes. The legs have shapes on then that are supposed to attach to the matching shaped lights - which is a good idea - but the execution was no good. It's hard for me to insert the shapes let alone my 11 month old - plus the shapes can only connect on one side where there are magnets. The largest light on the toy is on the top of the bug - naturally you'd think that you can touch it at will to maybe make the bug sing or something but you'd be wrong - when you touch the light (which is the only one my son is really all that interested in messing with) the bug says "uh oh" and then laughs like they've done something wrong. It's semi-condesending. I appreciate the thought and the gift but I wanted to post a comment so others would know before hand to save their money and buy something else.

Favorite Toy Sep 13, 2005

I had bought this toy for my son when he was 10 months old. He figured out immediately (after watching me a few times) how to pull the bug around on the floor. The toy rolls very easily on the ground, even on high pile carpets. When you set it to music mode and just pull it... the little legs clack around and it plays a TON of fun songs. He LOVEs to do this. over, and over and over again. WHen he comes home from daycare this is one of the first toys he plays with. The toy is very durable, as it has also been carried (and dropped), drug up and down the steps, and pulled outside. The music is not too loud, but it's loud enough that he still can hear it. Each of the shapes, have a different number and type of bug on it. This toy has several different learning modes, for counting, follow the leader, ABC's, music, teaches different kinds of bugs, etc. RIght now, he's almost a year, he really just enjoys the lights and music.. and the satisfaction that he can pull a toy along all by himself, just like his mom!

Don't believe the older reviews! This product must have been updated! Jan 03, 2012

Other reviews refer to a big star button on the top and the toy saying "whoops" and "uh-oh" and only playing one song over and over and that the voice is almost indecipherable, the shapes are hard even for an adult to put in the corresponding hole, the shapes don't pop out when the top button is pressed, the shapes stay in the hole with cheap/weak magnets that don't hold well. We have had this toy for a couple weeks now and there is no star button on the top, it has yet to say "whoops" or "uh-oh", every thing is enunciated clearly, the pieces pop in and out easily and all the pieces easily release when pressing the "lady bug button" on the top, the pieces do not contain or use magnets to stay in place and my daughter is still learning how to put the pieces in the holes but there is no difficulty for any adults to use this toy and I find it laughable that any adult would find it difficult and image there was a bit of exaggerating going on on the other reviewers parts, it plays many different songs and aside from being louder than I would prefer with no volume switch to adjust, we love this toy for our 11 month old and she loves it too. It has two modes and between the two it will tell your child the shapes and numbers, it has nature and chiming sounds, several songs that speed up and slow down when pulled from the string, it asks your child to find the shapes and encourages them to play and think. I love that the shapes are attached to the toy, no more lost pieces and no more stepping on said pieces in the middle of the night. I know it will take our daughter a little while to figure out how to snap the pieces into the shaped holes but she is starting to catch on already. Also, the "hole" that each shape snaps into has a button that matches that shape, when pressed the button will (depending on if you are in music mode or ABC mode) play a song, say the shape, say the number, say a sentence relating to the image on the button, play a sound (like wind or chimes...), one of these things will happen with each press of the button (not all at once or with one press). Not sure if they just updated this model or they had a bad batch go out, but I have not experienced any of the complaints other parents had (other than being too loud).

Evil Dec 28, 2009
By A. Carvalho This toy is the most annoying/evil toy ever. My mother in law got it for my daughter, maybe she was trying to punish me, it's the only reason anyone would purchase this evil toy. The song is annoying and not easy to understand, the string is long and scary, and the toy is difficult to play with. Please don't give this toy as a gift unless you want to lose some friends.
