Sturdier Structure Than Other Hovercrafts--Buy Different Frequencies Needed if Children Play Together With This Item Dec 18, 2006
By Elizabeth Barrett
"Water Lover"
Living on a lake on a flat grassy point with a sand beach (and hardwoods inside), my son has had every hovercraft made. Most hovercrafts have one large balloon-type rubber bottom supported by styrofoam. The rubber has always pulled away from the product (causing the air not to fill and support it) and/or the styrofoam has cracked, causing an early demise. The 3 rotor "wheels" on this product appear to make it sturdier and easier to repair. GRANDPARENTS, ETC., IF YOU ORDER MORE THAN ONE OF THIS PRODUCT FOR CHILDREN WHO WILL PLAY TOGETHER WITH IT THEY MUST HAVE DIFFERENT MHZ FREQUENCIES. ORDER THE TYCO 27 MHZ (BLUE ONE) BY MATTEL AND THE TYCO 49 MHZ (RED ONE) BY TYCO OR THE PRODUCT WILL NOT WORK WHEN THE 2 CHILDREN ARE EMPLOYING THEIR REMOTES AT THE SAME TIME.

Good on land, but not what I expected on water Dec 26, 2006

Goes great on flat surfaces, but doesn't move on water like I had expected. When moving across water, it's not on a cushion of air. It basically has tires that are mounted sideways. These tires spin in the water, and make the craft move. It's not "floating" over the water. It's like a really slow boat in the water.

Ideal conditions toy Apr 08, 2007
By Michael Stiffler Seems to work ok. The battery life seemed to last just long enough. Operation was tricky - hard to control - not much fun inside the house. We've only had it outside once on hard packed snow. Where it was level and smooth, the hovercraft really flew - it was a blast. Judging from the little experience we've had with it, I don't think it would be much fun on water or uneven terrain. The dead weight of the inactive front wheel seemed to cause control problems. Sometimes it was more fun to drive it backwards. Overall, don't make this the crown jewel if you're gift giving.

Great fun Jan 29, 2007
By Mouse This car is awesome! My son who is 7 yrs. old loves it, he loves how fast it moves.
However, it doesn't have the best battery life, it's good for about an hour and then you have to charge the battery for about 18 hours before you can use it again.
We have never tried to use it on water so I don't know how well it works there. But it does move quite well around the house. Like most remote control cars, the thrill will wear off and it will sit in the closet with the rest of the remotes and cars. BUT in the meantime he is enjoying this new car that he purchased all by himself with his Amazon Christmas money!
The car is good quality, durable and fun.

Not perfect, but pretty good! Oct 04, 2007

I've never had an RC hoovercraft so I don't really have anything to compare this product to, but its a pretty fun toy if you don't set unrealistic expecatations. It only hoovers less than a centimeter off the ground, so its not really going "WOW" you with the hoover effect. The hoovering does get the job done. The great thing is that it comes with a battery pack + charger, a must with a product like this. The controls are pretty simple, only 2 buttons are used. It does seem kind of ackward at first, but its not hard once you get the hang of it. This thing moves very fast, and that is both a plus and a minus. Unless you walk closey behind it, it will quickly get out of range of the remote. I estimate the range at approx. 15 feet. It a pretty durable product, as the tires also act as bumpers to prevent damage and they can take a good beating. I used this in my backyard and it bumped into all sorts of objects (I recommend keeping pets and unsuspecting people away from this thing to prevent harmful collisions). The unit has a good weight is pretty stable and never flipped over. I haven't tried it on water yet, as I am a bit skeptical if it would actually float, but it works best on a hard flat surface.
PROS: * Very fast * Comes with rechargable battery pack * Good Size (over a foot long) * Pretty durable
CONS: * 2 Buttons controls are a bit ackward * Short range of remote * May be dangerous to small animals/unsuspecting people
