I bought this Tamagotchi connection v4.5 a while back, thinking it would just be something fun to play around with every now and then. But it's actually pretty fun. For those of you that have never had a tamagotchi, your character will grow into different things depending on how well you take care of it. There is a total of 50 something characters to get on this version, counting all the stages (baby, child, teen, and adult).
This pet is actually very easy to raise, if you leave the sound on. (That way you'll always know when it needs something). Even if you like to turn the sound off though, once it gets past the baby stage (which is only an hour after it hatches), it requires less care. Just make sure to check it every hour or so I'd say.
Some of the cool features of this toy are the items you can get. Your tamagotchi will play with them and have cute little animations. Those would mostly be more fun for smaller children though, because as far as I can tell, playing with items doesn't really affect anything. Although some of them will give you other items or tama points if you use them (like the plant or the lamp). There are also many different kinds of foods to buy for your little guy, and different characters like different foods. Feeding them foods they like can raise their happiness and skill points.
Also, your tamagotchi can go to school after reaching a certain age. The preschool is automatic, but the elementary school, you actually play a little mini game. Then when you graduate, depending on the different "skill points" you have (there are 3 different types, that each max out at 999), your tamagotchi can get a job in a certain category. Trying to get different jobs with each generation of tamagotchi can be fun, in my opinion.
Also, although you can connect with other tamagotchis to play games, trade gifts, or even mate and have a new baby, if you don't have another, then after a while, the "matchmaker" will appear on your toy and automatically mate your tamagotchi with another. So you don't need two toys to keep having more generations of tamagotchi.
The toy itself is pretty durable too. I've had mine for about 4 or 5 years as of this review, and it's still in great shape, with hardly any marks. Just minor scuffing, as is the usual wear. The screw on the back is nice and big too, not like the old Giga Pets, so I don't think it would strip as easily. Although I don't think it's fixed in there, so if you're not careful, it could fall out when you go to take it out.
Going to the Tamatown website can be fun, although in my opinion, it gets old fast. I use it to buy items that the shop in the tamagotchi isn't seling at the time, and to find the souvenirs, but trying to collect the souvenirs is all but impossible. Most of them disappear when your tama leaves and you're left with a new baby, so you'll most likely never have them all, or if you do, then not for very long. Also, the site is down a lot now, although you can still get on through the European website with an american tamagotchi.
I'd say my only gripe with these, is that they're so much harder to raise if you have a life at all. (like school, a job, etc.) Which is odd, considering these are aimed at school aged children. But then the pause mode comes in handy for that. Although it would make your tamagotchi age much slower (they won't age in pause mode), they would actually be alive when you got home from school/work, and you could leave them unpaused when you're at home.
Overall, I give this a 4 because, while it is pretty fun, it will most likely get old, once you've raised many generations, and because of not being able to raise it as well if you have a life.

Highly addictive. Get two so they have a friend to visit.
Incredible technology in such a small item.
