5Great gift for a six year old.  Dec 15, 2006 By D. Nagy
We bought this for our son for his sixth birthday (along with a bunch of other Mega Bloks PotC sets) and he loved it! The detail is amazing and he has spent hours playing with it. The directions are very detailed yet incredibly simple. It is very well made unlike the "Zizzle" version of the same toy which we had and fell apart at the slightest touch. If your kids (or you) are into PotC, I would definitely get this toy.

4Fun toy with many pieces  Dec 14, 2006 By W. Howell "Homeschool Mom in the Arctic"
We have pretty much all of the POTC toys that have been made! The Megabloks Black Pearl pirate ship has a lot of detail and a lot of pieces. We have two of these and they each took about 20 minutes to build. The ships are fragile so if your child likes to play rough they will come apart. My 7yo and 4yo boys love them anyway. They are rich in detail and my kids are into their imaginary play for hours with them.

We also have the Zizzle Black Pearl pirate ship. It doesn't have nearly as many parts (not the "Lego" style like Megabloks) and is bigger. It has some cool electronic noises and trap doors, but is not as detailed as the Megabloks version. The Megabloks version has real sails too. The Zizzle ship has no action figures, so you have to order the 3" figures separately (my kids just use their Megabloks figures).

Their other favorites are the Megabloks Flying Dutchman (built a lot like the Black Pearl) and the Dead Man's Chest. These sets are a must have for the POTC fan!

5Great Toy  Dec 26, 2006 By Hatterharry
The toy is a nice set. Obviously, because it is made of blocks, it can fall apart if your kids are too rough - although it has faired well with my 6 year old so far. However, compared to most sets, the ship stays together without many problems right out of the box. In addition, as with any building toy, weak spots can be braced by using other mega blocks or legos (which is part of the building fun).

1Looks cool, Doesn't stay together well.  Dec 06, 2006 By TomT
Bought at Toys r Us for 8 year old. Had fun putting
it together, and like I said it Looks cool.

However, you barely touch it while playing with it,
and it falls apart. Even frustrating for a kid.

I would expect better quality for $40.
Probably will return.

5Wow, great ship! Prirates crazy daughter loved it!  Dec 26, 2006 By Steph
The Black Pearl playset is absolutely worth the money. My 6 year old daughter who LOVES Capt. Jack received this along with other mega block sets in the series. I ended up putting it together for her while she entertained her grand parents.

The instructions were really well done. Each step was pictured in simple to understand notations and large images. Each piece fits like any other mega blocks or lego-type project. You just got to make sure you press the pieces together on a hard surface to get them to really lock well (carpet building is especially hard when attempting the port royal playset. lol)

It took me about an hour to get the Black Pearl together. This was only because there was so much going on around me while I was working. :-)

Yes, the ship will come apart while you are playing with it. My daughter didn't rip it in half or anything - just a part of the side had to be pushed back on. Isn't that part of the fun of a Pirate ship battle with two ships blowing holes into each other with their cannons?

Anyway, I've never known a lego-type toy not to come undone unless you permanently model glue them in strategic places. I think I'll probably end up doing that to this ship. It is quite pretty - can you say that about a pirate ship?!lol - and well detailed. The figures are really cool, too. Each of their little arms, legs, and heads are posable.

All and all, yes, I do recommend this toy. I'm tempted to buy another and keep it save and decked out on a shelf. :-)
