Fun shape sorter with a manly toolbox slant Nov 13, 2002
By J. Manullang
"JLSM"
When my son received this for his first birthday recently, he took to it immediately, which is not a normal thing for him. It's got fun shapes, sounds, lights, and a cool middle part that moves to either side of the open toolbox, and he just can't get enough of it. There's also the added amusement of watching him carry it around like a mini-handyman. :-)As each shape is hammered or shoved through the appropriate hole, a small button is pressed that plays a short tune to go with the flashing lights from the center section. Each of the shapes plays a different tune, so it's not nearly as annoying as it might be otherwise. WARNING: The middle piece is a bit heavy, and it seems that little fingers could get caught in the edges when it falls to either side, especially when it's being fought over. One big plus: this toy is easily transportable, as all the pieces (shapes and hammer) fit inside the toolbox and it snaps closed. It doesn't fall open; in fact, it can be a bit difficult for little ones to open... but that makes it even better for traveling!

Not safe! Jul 18, 2006
By Jen or Tom The box snaps shut with some force quite easily; today, my one year old closed the box and got pinched badly enough to get a dark and clearly very painful bruise.
Additionally, it's only fun if you start the shape for the child, since they (and my son is strong) find it very hard to get the shape past the sound-activation button, which pretty much kills the learning aspect.
The lights are nice, but not really very noticable when actually playing with the toy, and the sounds are just okay.
The best thing about the toy is the hammer, but there are plenty of hammer toys out there.
I initially put the toy away thinking I'd bring it out again when he gets a bit older, but I think I'm actually just going to get rid of it.

Watch the fingers! Nov 28, 2006
By MeFlory I bought this toy for my 10 month old son thinking it would be fun with the different shapes and music. I usually sit and play with him cause he is too small to put the pieces in the right place, however, one day when I was not playing with him he grabbed the toy which was open and it closed on his finger. Luckily it did no long term damage but very disappointing especially with a product from Little Tikes. I think it's a fun toy just be sure to not leave it where your child can play with it without supervision.

Interactive play for your little one Feb 20, 2003
By Little Greek My son has just starting playing with this at six months and seems to really like it. We lay the box on the floor in front of him, place the pieces into their proper spot, hand him the hammer and let him bang away. With each piece that falls through music and lights are triggered. He watches in amazement every time. I love that this toy is interactive and teaches cause and effect. All the pieces pack up neatly into the tool box for easy carrying and storage. The reason I only gave 3 stars for fun is because the pieces don't fit into their appropriate spots well. Each space is fitted with a button that causes the lights and sounds and that button can cause the pieces to lay sideways making it hard for baby to pound them through. If they could fix that, this toy would get perfect ratings from me.

This is a hit at our house. Jan 04, 2005
By Mom of 3 boys. I have 3 boys ages 4.5, 3 and 1 - all of them play with this toy. I like that all the pieces can be stored inside the tool box. The button inside where you place the shapes is great, because with younger kids you can get the shape started and the button holds it until the child pushes it through. My 1 year old loves the lights and the sound isn't annoying for parents :)
