5Leap Frog AC Adapter  May 12, 2012 By J. McGill
To those of you looking for a current review and to answer some questions, I wanted to make a few comments. First of all, as many other reviewers have mentioned in their five star ratings and to answer some of you that have left one or two star ratings, this is an AC Adapter, as mentioned in the product description and the box itself. This is not a charger, not a docking station. This is merely an electrical plug that works with the Leap Frog products. Whether you have rechargable batteries or not, this item is not intended to charge those. This is to be plugged in while using the unit, as you would a television. If you want a portable unit, put in the batteries. We use this ac adapter when we are at home, since most kids sit in one place while using these toys, it is no problem to plug it into the nearest outlet. We put in fresh batteries when we head to an airport or when we are in the car. That being said, the second issue, which actually made me wonder whether to order this or not, is whether it works for the LeapPad or Leapster Explorer units. It does. In fact, the version we received is exactly as shown - a white adapter with a rounded/domed plug - and the box actually says on the front and back that it works for ALL Leapster Learning Systems - explicitly stating that it includes the Leapster Explorer and the LeapPad Explorer. We have a Leapster 2 as well as the LeapPad and this works for both of them. Why the product description mentions that it isn't compatible with the Explorer systems, I do not know. The only reason I can think of is that Leap Frog has updated this item since it originally appeared and now includes those systems. Of course, what you receive could always vary from what someone else received, but we just got ours this week (May 6, 2012) and the pictured item is what we recieved, even if the description doesn't match. As far as I am concerned, this is a very fair price for an electrical alternative to batteries, especially if it works for all the units Leap Frog now makes. Oh and one last answer that I couldn't find before I ordered it - the cord length is 6.5 feet (78 inches).

5Don't hesitate on buying!  Jun 19, 2010 By gracecswmsw
I agree with the other 99.99% of reviewers. Definitely 5 star. I hesitated on buying it and now am wondering why. Love it! Things I think would be helpful to other people: Once you attach it to the Leapster it automatically blocks the device from getting power from the batteries so it doesn't damage the batteries or device. Other game devices with AC adapters they tell you to remove the batteries, but with the Leapster AC adapter you can keep the batteries in according Leap Frog. The cord stays into the device good and doesn't fall out. The cord is really long. The outlet plug end had a smaller 3/4 inch thick box extension with the prongs behind the larger power pack box that makes it easier for the plug to be tightly snug against the plug socket outlet at home or in the car if it has an three pronged AC power outlet like mine. You can't walk more than approximately (haven't measured it)6 feet away, but if you were playing a PlayStation, X-box, or Nintendo 64, most kids stay sitting in one spot while they play games even if it is an handheld game console. And when we need his Leapster 2 to be portable he has his rechargeable AA batteries inside. Even rechargeable batteries can be recharged only so many times before you have to replace them as well. Buying this has saved us so much on how often we have to recharge or buy replacement rechargeable batteries.
Update: We used this on a road trip vacation from Florida to Niagara Falls, New York all the way up on the United States/Canadian border and this was a life saver on the extremely long...long road trip in a car. Like I said my car has an three pronged AC power outlet. Worrying about his rechargeable batteries having to be recharged and replaced over and over on the road was not a issue.

4Wallet saver  Nov 03, 2011 By KK
I purchased the Leapster Leappad for my child and wanted another way for her to use it rather then buying batteries all the time and decided to buy this AC adapter. I was kinda concerned that this would not work with that particular device but it does, theres a slot for the adapter to pull in and I do not have to worry about having to buy batteries all the time.

5This works with the Leapster, Leapster Explorer, and LeapPad  Jul 18, 2012 By Rebecca
I just want to confirm what another reviewer mentioned. The description on this listing is outdated. The box I just received indicates that this unit will work on the Leapster, Leapster Explorer, and the LeapPad. We plugged it into the LeapPad tonight and it worked like a charm. I also want to confirm that this is not a charger and will not charge the unit, it simply provides power while it is plugged in.

5A Must Have for Leapsters!  Jan 09, 2007 By T.E.
If your kids have a leapster you need this, its great. Just think of all the money you will save by not having to replace batteries all the time. I bought two of these from Amazon for my kids and I highly recommend this product.
