5Great starter set  Jan 07, 2007 By Carol M
My almost 5 year old son got this as his first Lego set. It's a great start. Lots of bricks of many colors and sizes. It has plenty of pieces for 2-3 kids to play together at the same time. It includes an idea book with some easy to follow pictures, so he was building right away.

I did have to supplement this set, as I watched my kids and noticed what pieces they really needed to play the way they want. This is the "Ultimate House Building Set", but my son really wants to make cars, trains, helicopters, and boats. He also really likes to have "lego guys" to play in his creations. So I added on to this set with:
* Large green baseplate - no baseplate in this set
* More wheels/axels - this set includes 4 wheels, only enough for one vehicle
* Other vehicle parts (windshields, seats, steering wheels, etc)
* Lego people - no people in this set
The baseplates are available at your big toy store. The other misc pieces are readily availble at online auction sites.

This set comes in a nice durable tote box. The box is much bigger than necessary to hold the included pieces. But that's a good thing, because you can easily add whatever other lego's you have and it can store small works-in-progress.

5Nice Lego set  Jan 04, 2007 By 642
My kids loved this set. It gives them much more freedom to experiment around with designs than the common, single-purpose sets. We have a miniature Monte Carlo grand hotel in our living room right now.

5What's not to love about Legos?  Mar 17, 2007 By Katherine Berry "Venomous Kate"
I bought these for my son's 7th birthday, having forgotten how much fun I had playing with Legos when I was a kid. Within moments of opening this set, he'd all but forgotten the toys that do not require as much imaginative play.

Since then, we've had fun making the buildings pictured on the box and in the accompanying pamphlet, as well as making our own creations. For instance, I'm writing this the day before St. Patrick's day... and in honor of that day we've created an "Irish village" on our dining table. I have a feeling we'll be doing something similar for every holiday this year... and I almost can't wait until Christmas!

I do wish, however, that Lego would start building boxes that help kids keep their blocks a bit more organized. It's rather frustrating for younger ones to fish around in a big tub looking for a tiny little piece... and frustrating for Mom when they dump the whole tub out to find just that one!

5How to organize Legos!  Oct 09, 2007 By Graphic Novel / Manga Reader "ownstoomanybooks"
As someone stated before, you can get this seat cheaper elsewhere.

It's a great set. I am an avid Lego collector and it has many pieces you could need to build a house and many more ideas. Buildings, walls, forts, garage, the list goes on. Imagination is endless.

What I do to organize is put them in ziplock bags by block color or block sizes. For example: a bag full of windows, bag full of trees/plants, full of roof pieces, so forth. If the pieces are too few, I use half ziplock bag (snack size). Easy to find things that way. Then I put the bags in the box. Next time you play again, it's all set and organized, easy to find what you're looking for.

4great set... just not enough legos  May 27, 2007 By Jennifer
I love legos as much as the next person does but this set had me a bit disappointed. For as big as the box is you expect more legos. My son likes to build a bunch of tiny houses but since the legos are limited he has to tear down a house he built to make a new one. When you take the legos out of the seperate bags they come in, the box isn't even near half way filled. So I am now buying the additional lego bricks to add to this tiny collection (which is a great deal by the way). So this package only loses one star because of that reason... I still think legos is one of the best toys ever made.
