5Maxilos and Spinax  Aug 18, 2007 By Sandra Barnett
Maxilos and Spinax is a good set. I like Spinax because he is very poseable. Maxilos is tall and sometimes he wobbles back and forth because of the way his feet were built. His waist bends, an improvement in BIONICLE.

5Makuta returns  Aug 02, 2007 By Centrocal
After being destroyed by the Toa, Makutas energy form has taken over the body of the robotic prison guard Maxilos. Makuta now continues his search for the Mask of Life in the depths of the ocean. With the help of his energy hound, Spinax, he plans to track down the mask and use it to rule the universe.

But he is not alone. The Barraki warlords, who were captured by Makuta and sent to the under water Pit years ago, now also seek the mask and revenge. In addition to them, Hydraxon the Guardian of the Pit has sworn to hunt down all escaped prisoners and intruders. And the new Toa Mahri have traveled to this battleground determined to protect the Mask of Life from falling into the wrong hands. But they are unaware they have been followed by a mysterious creature, the evil Karzahni who plans to steal the mask for himself then use it to defeat the Toa and challenge Makutas power

Makuta wields the dual bladed black fire sword and a shoulder-mounted Cordak blaster. This figure features multiple points of articulation, including waist, torso, shoulders, arms, legs, knees and ankles. Stands 20cm tall

4bought as a gift  Nov 16, 2008 By lilbit
I bought this as a gift. Amazon is great as a source for toys because many times you can't find a certain item in stores. The boy loved that I was able to find this particular bionicle.

3Spinax is good, Maxilos is poorly designed - won't stand  Mar 24, 2008 By Steven Wood "skadar"
Maxilos is a strange model. The designer clearly over-engineered his lower legs, which are very sturdy, but left the hip joints at nothing more than a standard ball and socket joint. This kind of joint is used all over the Bionicle "kingdom" and it works great for smaller models. But Maxilos is simply too heavy and his hip joints can't deal with the load. He constantly falls over unless you balance him perfectly. In this way, he's fine for display, but horrible for actual play.

You can tell that LEGO understood the problem with the hip joints because they fabricated a brand new socket piece that is supposed to counteract the issue. They look like the standard socket piece, but they have a rubber-like material infused into them that is supposed to grip the ball within the joint. These new pieces completely fail. They actually make the joint weaker.

I am still looking for a solution to the problem, as my son is quite disappointed by this set that he had bought with saved money. There are a couple of possibilities: 1) You can engineer a LEGO solution on your own by adding some kind of support rods across the hip area, 2) You can try to swap out the hip socket with another, old style piece, or 3) You can try to deform or interfere with the smooth operation of the existing joint using glue, rubbing sand into the joint, etc.

Good luck!

4okay toy but not all i hoped for...  Jan 18, 2008
i was KINDA dissapointed when i saw how Maxilos was built. Does not stand up good because of the way his legs r built. But Spinax is awsome. For those of u who do not like rubber pieces THEN DO NOT BUY THIS SET SPINAX'S SPINES R RUBBER. Axe thing is awsome. Mask: kinda stupid. Oh yeah THERE R HYDROLICS IN ARMS CAN U BELIEVE THAT? There r Hordika chest plate in back. With Cordak Blaster.
