4Rrrrrrr-eady to rrrrrrr-oll?  Jun 05, 2006 By Lisa B. "SAHM and avid reader"
My parents gave this to our son for Christmas. He was only 4 months old at the time, so it was put away until he got old enough to play with it. While the recommended age is 12 months according to Amazon's info and 18 months according to the packaging, I've given it to him now to play with at 10 months old. He likes the lights and sounds and crawls after the fire engine when it travels across the floor. However, it does not move at all in any of the carpeted areas of our house - which means he can only play with it in our kitchen or outside on the cement portion of our patio. He doesn't play with the fireman, George, or his Dalmation, Smokey. They are tossed aside for now though I'm sure as my son matures they will become part of the action.
I see this as being a toy that he will enjoy more as he gets older. I just wish the motor was powerful enough so it worked on carpet.

5Great Sounds!  Feb 05, 2007 By Anthony Collie
My son just got this for his 2nd birthday and though he may grow out of it soon, he loves it! I am impressed with the moving parts and durability, but most of all, the sound. It has great sound effects and a fun song. For a children's toy, the sound quality is terrific!

3It's ok, not as great as expected  May 11, 2011 By Sandra Verrier
I was expecting more from this toy based on other reviews. There are no lights, but there are 4 sounds when you press down on the driver's seat: a fire engine's horn, police sirens, ladder extending with a dog bark, and the "Up and down, down and up" song. You get a fireman holding a kitten and a dalmation with a fireman's hat. The figures are interchangeable where they can sit (my boy likes the dog to drive.) The driver wiggles back and forth when you push the truck, and the ladder goes up and clicks to stay in place. That is ALL that it does. Here's where I think the toy falls short... I was expecting the ladder to rotate around or swivel in some way but it doesn't. You have to aim the whole truck at the blaze and shoot over the cab. You can't rescue anyone from on top of a building because the ladder can't get close enough. The side ladder is just for looks - it doesn't come off. The driver doesn't seat firmly and easily falls out. I think it's on-par with the Fisher-Price Little People Lil' Mover Dump Truck -- I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it.
