4A cool toy for five and up!  Jan 01, 2007 By Laura K. "Laura K."
I bought this on a whim, and really hoped that it would work as well as I would expect from a Crayola Product. I was not disappointed! It was really easy to set up, and not hard at all to snap the color sprays into the device. My five year old could use this within minutes, and it has been keeping her entertained daily. The stencils are sturdy, it comes with four starter colors and two "wonder" markers and a nice pack of paper to get you started. On the down side, the paper goes quickly! Buy an extra pack, so that you don't have to run out to WalMart!

My only other minor issues: 1)The color does take a few seconds to show up on the paper. If you have used "Wonder" products before, you know this to be true, but I thought it took even a bit of extra time for the color to develope. Just be aware that the paint IS coming out, or you will soak the paper! 2) There is no Off switch, so be aware that this toy will spray if the button is pressed. It won't stain things, but it could make a mess if you aren't paying attention to your active child...

3When addapted, this is a fun multipurpose item!  Oct 04, 2007 By D. Hatch
Okay, so I bought this and didn't realize that it only worked on 'special paper' (it was my first color-wonder purchase). Color wonder does have its ups and downs, but I am to cheap to keep buying refills. So, I popped open the tubes and put my own dye in the vials/tubes! I have definitely have to 100% supervise my 6 and 4 year olds when using this--we use it outside on huge butcher paper pieces. But it is a lot cheaper to refill and no worries on how much ink they use. Heck, I have even used this sprayer to paint a tye-die looking birthday cake! ( I used the edible dye, found in the cake decorating isle)
I am sure Color wonder doesn't want you to do this and doesn't condone it, either.
But, hey it is way fun to mix my own colors and I'm happy knowing I don't have to keep buying over-priced color-wonder dye.

3Some limiting factors can affect enjoyment of this toy  Jan 01, 2009 By Modern Blue Argonaut
We are huge fans of Color Wonder. One thing I love about Color Wonder is that the items are mix and match. Luckily, we have several other colors of color wonder markers, several pads and coloring books, finger paints, and additional stencils which made this a better toy than what's included.

First, although this is "mess-free" it's really not 100% mess free. When using this toy you'll want to have a towel ready to wipe the stencils off because it will spray on the stencil as well as the paper.

My biggest complaint with this toy is that the 3 stencil sheets included don't work too well with an airbrush. You'll unfortunately end up stenciling nearby designs creating quite a mess on the paper. A set of individual stencils with wide borders might have pushed this up a star and made all the difference.

The only two markers included are yellow and black. I think Crayola, the company of many colors, should have included at least 4 markers. Luckily I had several more Color Wonder markers on hand so our creative juices were not stinted.

Considering the price of this toy, I would have expected more than one pad of 30 sheets. Two pads would have been great.

The batteries installed easily, it takes 4 size "C" batteries, which are not included. Luckily I had a pack of 6 on hand I had picked up at the dollar store to have on hand for occasions like this.

Overall, I think the toy is well-designed. It's fun to use but the accessories were a disappointment, most notably the stencils.

Creative children might just enjoy the regular color wonder pads and markers by themselves.

3For occasional use only  Feb 08, 2009 By Noname
I take this toy out once in a long while for my kids or their friends to play with when they are bored. It doesn't keep their interest on a daily basis, but it is a novelty when I bring it out it occasionally.

They sprayer does work, but it takes a little time for the color to show up and that can be frustrating for very little ones. My son likes the sheets with pictures pre-drawn on them that have a picture pop out when he sprays it. My daughter likes using the stencils.

I would prefer this sprayer if it would use washable inks and regular paper. I suspect my kids would rather like that, too. I like the Color Wonder concept, but the lag time and the need for special paper leaves something to be desired.

This isn't something I'd buy agian. I prefer to spend my money on products that hold my children's interest on a more daily basis. We go a long way with scissors, crayons and paper. This one has to be pulled in and out of storage.

1Terrible Product  Aug 28, 2008 By N. Chambers
We purchased this product for our son. He was excited when he opened the package but disappointed quickly because it just doesn't work. Once you get all of the batteries in, you pop in the color tube and start spraying. Nothing comes out! We can get ink out of the color tube on our own but once you put it into the sprayer, it doesn't blow out. We tried to get it to work over and over again with no success. It is also loud and annoying when it is turned on. We threw it away about 1 month after purchasing it because the store wouldn't accept the return. I wouldn't recommend buying this product.
