Quick & Some Good Qualities but also Many Annoying Quirks Nov 18, 2009
By Mr. Thomas E. Gackle
"Mr. Helpful"
I do NOT recommend this machine for a network of any kind. I owned an 8170c which I believe was the first multi-function laser in this Canon league and although it had problems, it allowed me to do many tasks that the MF8450c can't do. This machine was provided to me by my insurance company after my 8170c was damaged in a fire. I can't get the MF8450c by-pass tray to work to save my life. I've called Canon tech support -- they blame it on software but it's NOT a software issue, that's just Canon's favorite excuse. My computer is new and all of my software is brand new and fully updated. The problem is the quirks of this machine. The scanner works nice but you actually have to go to the machine and change settings in order to get it to scan...every time you want to fax or print or scan, you have to change settings at the machine. The machine does not come with the software necessary to scan as did the 8170c. Fortunately, I had some great scanning software. I honestly thought that Canon would build a better product but I think this machine is downgrade from what I owned previously.

Absolutely Horrible Printer Jun 24, 2010
By Nik From day 1, I had problems with this printer. Often, one of the toner cartridges would cease printing on 1/4 of the page. I would have to take-out the toner and manually shake it in order to get it to work. Also, sometimes it would refuse to print and require a reboot; you really never knew what was going to happen when you pressed the print button on your computer. Moreover, the color matching was dreadful; often black shadows would be printed in blue, a problem that disappeared when I used another printer. Finally, when the printer indicated that it needed a new magenta toner, and when that $139.00 toner refused to print on 1/4 of the page, despite shaking the cartridge, I donated it and got another printer. I suppose the worst part of all this is that Canon support was absolutely useless; they blamed it on the type of paper I was using, however, they failed to appreciate that I tried many different kinds of paper, which no other color laser printer I tried had a problem with. In short, the worse printer I've ever had; it was a complete and total waste of money, in my opinion.
